Humble Pie
The Bible provides extensive guidance on the importance of humility, often linking it to spiritual growth, relationships with others, and favor with God. Here are some detailed insights: ### Old Testament Perspectives 1. **Proverbs 22:4**: "Humility is the fear of the Lord; its wages are riches and honor and life." - **Insight**: This verse connects humility with a reverent fear of the Lord, suggesting that true humility involves acknowledging God's sovereignty. The rewards of humility are not just spiritual but also include honor and a fulfilling life. 2. **Micah 6:8**: "He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God." - **Insight**: Humility is depicted as a fundamental requirement from God, alongside justice and mercy. Walking humbly with God means living a life that recognizes and respects God's authority and righteousness. ### New Testament Perspectives 3. **Philippians 2:3-4**: "Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others." - **Insight**: Apostle Paul teaches that humility involves valuing others more than oneself and putting the interests of others ahead of personal desires. This fosters a community of love and selflessness. 4. **James 4:6,10**: "But he gives us more grace. That is why Scripture says: 'God opposes the proud but shows favor to the humble.' Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up." - **Insight**: James highlights that humility attracts God's grace and favor. Humbling oneself before God is seen as a prerequisite for being exalted by Him. 5. **1 Peter 5:5-6**: "In the same way, you who are younger, submit yourselves to your elders. All of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, because, 'God opposes the proud but shows favor to the humble.' Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time."

Very well said @Stephen Lecuyer . I really appreciated the first point about how humility begins with a reverence to God's sovereignty. One thing I have learned about humility is that it is not a punishment, nor is it an excuse to be less than you can be. Instead, we acknowledge God's power, recognize that He didn't give us any special super power, then do all to His glory so we can inspire others.

Christ will always be first in my life. That being said, I also love the gym and being a chiropractor. I strive to see other men reach their fullest.
