Broker Bonds don't cover Intremodal Freight
I just found out the broker bonds don't cover Containers. So how do we go after brokers for our non payments?

Co-Brokering
Good afternoon EVERYONE! I have a question and am hoping I can get a bit of advice as I am a bit new to the industry. I am an active freight broker, and I randomly received an email from another active broker. Small company asking if I would be willing to co-broker for/with them as an independent contractor. I spoke to the fellow and he sounded like a nice guy but in the day we live in I am always skeptical and trust NO ONE. Sooo, he did send me over his blank co- brokering agreement, SAFER snapshot, and his surety bond. Then he requested I send him my W9, surety bond, and for me to send back signed agreement. What I am wondering is has anyone had experience co-brokering? How do I protect myself from being scammed? I have no big red flags that makes me feel like I am getting scammed I am just always skeptical and feel like there is way to stay protected somehow. Should I make up my own contractual agreement to have him sign? What would you do?

@Tiffany Lawson , we/I receive at least 5 per day asking to CO-Broker. If not done properly it is Double Brokering. We do have Co-Broker agreements with US companies as we specialize in Canada which benefits them and their customer. As per @Steven Tittle would work to move my own freight, a) there is not enough margin available with current rates. b) there are 280,000 carriers registered in the USA looking to make relationship with you. Cryptocurrency in Freight Shipping
Has anyone in our group worked in a shipping environment where a cryptocurrency was utilized to pay for the shipping of their freight? I know in eCommerce there are a number of sites where you can purchase and pay for the shipping in Crypto. Overstock, Shopify, NewEgg and Rakuten all accept crypto payments for shipping services. I know in Maritime freight the "ccc" container crypto coin was launched on ethereum ledger all the way back in 2018 but never made it to full adoption. But currently in Freight Trucking Transportation is anyone operating in this space? Any carrier planning on accepting Bitcoin or Crypto for payment or having their freight moved on a Blockchain ledger? Anyone have any insight into these developments it would be great to discuss where this is headed in terms of freight settlements in the future.

Understand I did not answer the question. @John Radvansky you hit on the first one, ocean if you do not have experience hire a FF, NVOCC who does. This is not an area you want to learn on the fly. Ocean is the most negative cash flow business in transportation, if you want to avoid demurrage you pay 3 days before ship is berthed, my customer had 40 arrive. we pay $398, 200 USD, customer invoice goes out 5 days later, 15-45 days for payment. Then you have the GEO political aspects, war, pirates, Houthis, Hamas and your rates go up 2-3500 in surcharges without notice. Then add we have the unions in North America, NO tech and the worst performing ports in the world.

LTL Freight
Hello everyone, i noticed there are some changes coming to the LTL Classifications in 2025. I'm new to the game of LTL. Can anyone recommend a class?

@Lisa Taylor , if you are not following or connected to Curtis Garrett he is excellent. MX look for the new one Cargo Data. There are a few others, LTL carriers are also considering using CWT rates. Cube Weight Tariff rates, that will pay carriers for all the air in the trailer and eliminate a class system. Has been used in Canada for 20 years now

@Lisa Taylor worked for one of the largest LTL carriers in Canada. The company has 17 terminals and moves 30,000 containers on rail of LTL per year. If you need help in Canada with CWT and directing to carriers reach out. The biggest key is shippers have to understand their freight dims and weight. If not the additional billing will cause tensions. Brokers need to understand the LTL network they are using. US national LTL carriers use P&D and hub and spoke, freight is handled several times, make sure it is packaged to move through the carriers network. Understand the transit times, as LTL from IL to CA standard could take 9-11 days to deliver. Margins are 20-30% on LTL versus TL at 8-12% dry van OTR. Understand the 30% may still be $50-$75 per shipment. If you do that 10-20 times per day can be rewarding. What I like Miss Taylor is you are adapting to the market. TL is down as shippers do not have the volumes so LTL is up and model they are using. well done, diversification to meet current market.
