Music theory's a waste of time
One thing that I see quite a lot is the view of Music Theory being a waste of time or something that gets in the way of creativity. This couldn't be further from the truth and is actually restricting your creativity if you have this viewpoint. 💯Yes, you can go the free wheeling "music just needs to be free man!" approach, and good luck to you. (Often I find these people are actually scared and intimidated by it and so default to a fake confidence.) But, if you want to be able to clearly express your experiences and understand how dots are joined, learning and understanding the relevant music theory is a must. Like any subject, learning a bunch of non-practical information that is purely to be kept in the mind and used temporarily is more than pointless in my experience (remind you of a lot of the school curriculum lol?) 🤣 💬But learning practical theory, like any practical information you can use practically and reflect on in your life is a game changer. If we look at music as a language, and then how we learn language, the only reason we're able to communicate right now is because we got taught a part of English theory - the written word. 🍉 The word 'red' isn't the colour red, but you know what it means when I write it. I can also deliberately use creative writing in my own style using English's frameworks that can trigger your memory to see the colour in your head and see it more in your surroundings, just by suggesting it like I am now. 🤔How much does your clarity of reflecting and visualising affect your life? 🤔And how amazing is it using a set framework to be creative and share your ideas and viewpoints throught it? 🤔 Also, if your ability to translate your ideas and emotions is limited because you are blocked by not understanding how the frameworks work, what determental effects on your creativity does this have? Are you truly as free as you think? And isnt full creativity reliant on true freedom? Whatever your answers are, I would strongly argue it's exactly the same with Music. And don't you want to be free in both?

3 tips to help arrange your track
👩‍💻 Most of us are on a quest to be our own Hans Zimmer with arrangement, but how exactly do we approach it when it can seem like such an elusive and non - tangible concept? 📖 With the emotion / message/ aim of your section and track being the main focus of your decisions, (just my suggestion) here are 3 great ways to improve your skillset, save time and get more impact, interest and variety into the song's you are writing 1️⃣ At first there was the word. A vocal drop out can be so powerful. Solo, accompanied by claps or bass and drums is a classic for a reason. What twist can you add? 2️⃣ Layer the cake baby! This is a biggie! While layering is usually approached to beef up your sections, using it more to mould textures is very effective. Say you have aight bell sound in chorus and then the break kicks off, try adding a full sounding guitar with a more sustained envelope playing the same pattern. Compressing them together for extra boost too. 3️⃣ Listen, love, learn. No, don't buy one of those wall hangings from the home shop but listening to tracks you love the arrangement for and learning what is going on, why it works and how to create your own version of this maybe the most powerful top of the lot ✅️Comment with any approaches you love and any mixes/ demos you have that you're digging or need help with. Let's inspire each other and help where we can 👊💯
