I'll be there too!
Countdowns and Q&A
Is anyone else getting sentimental when they realise we're at the 10 day countdown to graduation? Also, I'm excited for Q&A this week because I've accumulated some (relevant) stories and metaphors. ( @Glenn Robson / @Emma Robson - if you were to reveal the topic ahead of time I could order these ideas to be more coherent!! And decrease my anxiety of repeating the "what does functional mean to you?" "Being able perform said function" sess)

Yes, also feeling sentimental. The time has gone super quickly. I feel that I am only just getting started on my movement journey.
Groundwork Class Today WONT Be Live
Hey All, We are out of town and had planned to run our live class as per usual however the wifi situation is not as good as we hoped. The yoga studio doesn’t get signal only the reception area. We will not be going live this afternoon. We will record and upload the class instead and it will go straight into the Movement Class Recordings folder. It will be there by 4pm. Sorry about the last minute alteration. Please comment or like this post so we know you’ve seen it :) Have a great week! Emma and Glenn

Happy Friday - unexpected wins
Sometimes we do things and get unexpected outcomes, pleasantly surprised by changes. Maybe we weren’t seeking these things specifically, or perhaps we were caught up searching for a different result that we were blindsided. Either way, it’s a lovely thing and it feeds the trust in the human body being a complex system. An example for me this week, a positive surprising result; since I stopped teaching regular classes and face to face PT my daily movement has significantly decreased in terms of variety and quality. I still move all day with the kids but it’s not intentional. Previously I might demonstrate foot rooting exercises 3-4x per day. I would hang regularly throughout the day. I would do reps of all types of exercises.. so my body felt great before I even put any time aside for my training. Nowadays that’s a different story. But this week, I got stuck into some jobs I’ve been putting off. Weeding my garden specifically. I got time in the sunshine, barefoot in nature, the kids helped fill the wheel barrow and dig around, my toes, feet and ankles got amazingly stimulated and I even got a sweat on which felt great. I had been a bit down because I haven’t found as much time to train as I would like to, but by taking on this ‘chore’ I was pleasantly surprised by how good my body felt. I was moving through squat, fisherman squats, and various low gait positions for a couple of hours, 3 days in a row. The only benefit to procrastinating this job so long was that I finally did it on the first days of spring when the sunshine was so glorious (hello Vitamin D ☀️). A few things I did to make this job nourishing to the body… I used both hands to pull weeds, I raked on both sides of my body, I squatted with flat feet, sometimes on the balls of my feet, and moved into fisherman squat regularly. I stood up from time to time when the legs needed a rest and then got straight back to work. When lifting the wheelbarrow to the greens bin I used my whole body. At the end of the night I lied down in the lounge room and did some thoracic rotation and rolling over the basketball. 💫

Great to hear that you got so much from gardening, Emma. I love bare feet in my backyard and that feeling of spring sun on my skin. For me, I'm always pleasantly surprised when I bend down to tie a shoe lace and find I can reach the ground without bending my legs and without discomfort.

Hi everyone! It is great to connect with you all. I'm Chloe (pronounced Cloy - I was born before Chloe was a popular name and my parents were told that Chloe is the modern French pronunciation and Cloy is the Ancient Greek). I live in Perth with two adult children and a kelpie, Izzy. We live in a big 1980s Italian house that needs lots of work inside and out, which is where many weekends go. I am also lucky to have experienced Glenn and Emma at Aspen. I love their philosophy and the idea of functional movement for life. I am training for my first half marathon in early December (I'm in a team with my daughter and one of her friends for the Busselton half ironman). I'm up to about 10kms, so a bit of training to go. I love the beach on a Sunday morning, walking in the hills, camping, gardening and generally being outside. I read lots of personal development and wellness books and look for ways to incorporate their teachings into my life. I'm enjoying the early morning routines, and looking forward to seeing where this program goes.

@Emma Robson I haven't read that one, although have another book called 'Move'. So many ... The Happiness Project by Gretchen Rubin Gretchen spent a year experimenting with ideas for happiness. Each month has a different theme, eg March - Aim Higher, June - Make Time For Friends. It is beautifully written and, what I love about it most, is that she is unapologetically herself. One of her rules is ‘Be Gretchen’. Big Magic by Elizabeth Gilbert. A guide to living more creatively. Great for creative types who procrastinate and find excuses to not do the things they really would like to be doing. The book is floaty and colourful. The Source by Tara Swart I came across this one recently and love Tara’s combination of science and self-help. She is a medical doctor, neuroscientist and executive coach. Who better to explain the neuroscience behind manifestation? Fear Less by Pippa Grange I bought this book after I heard Pippa being interviewed by Brené Brown. She sounded so lovely, I wanted to know more. Pippa is a sports psychologist and culture coach. The book draws on her experience in the sporting world to provide a framework all of us can use to live less fearfully. And one of my favourites, not a self help book at all but where I first heard about parkour. Natural Born Heros by Christopher McDougall. At its heart, it is about how we can all be heroes.
