Pick up your cross
For the serious Christian, the cross is indispensable. Those who claim that following Jesus makes your life a bed of roses under a rainbow where everyone smiles and becomes rich are liars who dismiss the truth of the Gospel. Jesus says that we are in the world but not of the world. We are called to Heaven. The world and all it holds bears no comparison to the glory we will receive in Heaven. What does Jesus say instead? Pick up your cross and follow after me. Why the cross? Because Jesus transformed suffering into redemption through an act of love. Love transforms the world. Love without the cross is untested, untried love. So pick up your cross today and choose to love through it. When you have a struggle or pain, offer it to Jesus. Pick up your cross and make today an offering of Love. Love is the cross’ lesson.

Amen. Amen. Amen. O cross of Christ, immortal tree on which our Saviour died, the world is sheltered by your arms that bore the crucified. From bitter death and barren wood the tree of life is made; its branches bear unfailing fruit and leaves that never fade. O faithful cross, you stand unmoved while ages run their course: foundation of the universe, creation's binding force. Give glory to the risen Christ and to his cross give praise, the sign of God's unfathomed love, the hope of all our days.
Prayer expresses our thirst for God
"All who have been lost were lost because they did not pray" St Aphonsus Liguori.

Prayer helps us begin receiving the goodness of God. Prayer lifts the veil of this world little by little, giving us glimpses of the glory to come. The more we pray, the more we understand we are living for Him: a living, breathing relationship with God is the only thing that can ever fill us up.
