One perspective is that the traditional medical approach focuses on the idea that the physical body is "broken" somehow; and that with dis-ease, something artificial from outside of the body, taken into the body, is the fix. A holistic approach could consider the physical body as part of the whole...(why isn't holistic spelled with a W - wholistic?), and an outward manifestation of what has been occurring in OTHER "parts" of the Whole, energetically...it's all energy, namely mental and emotional. "What thoughts, ideas, paradigms etc. lead to feelings of stress, and the release of stress hormones into the blood and body cells, leading to dis-ease over time?" Those are my thoughts anyhow. 🙂
