Extremely Valuable SAT Tips!
I'm about to give you insanely good advice from one of our members in Stutoring Plus who scored a 1510 on his August SAT! Here is exactly what he said below: - I was terrible at grammar, but tbh, it's the easiest thing to push out of the way if you learn the rules perfectly, grind out grammar, and try to do every type of question, and I can guarantee that you will be fine because grammar went from being the hardest to the easiest for me. - For the weird science questions if I was running short on time I just looked at the first and last sentence and it lowkey worked, but in mod 2 u def have to check w the graphs because they might put false info in the multiple choices. Also, for the main ideas, it's definitely the best strategy to focus on the first and last sentences to get the main idea. - For poems look for repeated words. A lot of people get scared w poems and I'm one of those ppl but the SAT never act wants u to do a deep analysis and understand. Just try to pull words out and apply them. Like I remember something about trees coming up in a poem a few times and the answer was something that had to do w trees. - Never use ur own knowledge. If you're contemplating between 2 answers think about if you would know this if u were in some isolated island where u never had contact w people or learned anything. Advanced students seem to find english hard cuz they overthink it and wanna find the perfectly right answer, and when they do that u sorta end up using ur own knowledge. The SAT is a objective test never subjective. - Instead of looking for the right answer look for the wrong ones. I had the tendency to find an answer I liked and try to support it, and the SAT is designed to make each one seem supported. If you prove why something is wrong instead, it helps out so much more, and the process of elimination is 10x easier. - To save time on notes just go straight to the multiple choice. - This may not work for everyone, but I started at 15 every time, and I was able to speed through the ends, which left me a lot more time for the lengthy passages that took up a ton of my time.
