Signups not possible today 😌
Folks, I have deactivated the sign-up links for the Year 4 and 5 programmes until tomorrow. I will be hopping on a flight this afternoon and will not be online to give you access to the class link. We had a parent sign up 2 hours before the class last week and he messaged me so we got that sorted. Phew 😅 I really don't want to use wifi in the air. I want to take some time to reflect and recoup. I am travelling to spend some time with my parents who are old, ill and going through some challenges. Do you ever switch offline or have no online hours/days? How does it make you feel?

Hi Soe, is it for year 4? If so, and you’re on the LJ plan the lessons are in the Year 4 Classroom Vault, lesson one was on creative writing. Hope that helps.

@Soe Gilbert See if it’s in the Year 5 Classroom Vault if it has been covered, if it’s not there then they may have not covered that part just yet on your course or message the tutor for that group.
Fit for 11+?
How can you tell whether your child is genuinely fit for 11+? My daughter is keen to learn but after about 6 weeks of starting 11+ preparation I realised that she needs a lot of support getting the basics right first. She still doesn’t know all her times tables and tackling 11+ topics feels like such a steep learning curve. I almost feel cheated by her school reports now, I thought she was at a better level than she actually is (or perhaps my expectations are too high?). Did anyone consider practicing the basic national curriculum at home before moving on to 11+? If so, which books and resources would be best? My daughter is in year 4.

Hi Hasma, I can relate to this too. We are doing Year 4 targeted workbooks for our learning (CPG and Collins, though my son prefers CPG style). I looked at the Bond books recommended for the 11plus ( my son automatically switched off and said it looks hard) but I also felt it was too soon to start those and instead to build up on the basics and then work our way up to the 11plus workbooks. I can see my son’s weakness is Vocabulary so I am thinking maybe it’s this that is the block so we are now using flashcards weekly to build on this. Plus we have just joined the Y4 LJ and hoping this will also help lead the way. I guess it just takes more time than we thought.
First steps to learning
Hi everyone! Just wanted to get parents input on this journey.. do you have a daily or weekly plan in place? I am going to self tutor my child to begin with as I feel they get overwhelmed with online group sessions feeling that they are “not clever” enough to complete tasks. Once I can build confidence I will revisit this at a later date. Any recommendations on how you started with your child would help. And how much time to spend on each topic.

@Hamsa Al-aqqad That’s exactly my predicament. I just joined the Year 4 learning programme a few days ago so will see how we get on, not received the Atom login yet to explore or do homework so I am keen to hear your thoughts on it.

@Hamsa Al-aqqad I have ordered some books recommended on the Book List on here. My son loves Maths, it is the English we need to work on which he seems to shy away from and have tantrums over when we sit down to do it. I am hoping over time he will learn to enjoy it like he does with Maths (fingers crossed).
Newbie!
Hi, all. I'm a mum to a dear daughter in Year 4 and we started our 11+ journey about a month ago. Our target school is Altrincham Grammar School for Girls, a member school of the Trafford Consortium. I'm trying to navigate the minefield that is the 11+ exam. I'm still not sure whether it will be the right path for my daughter but all I can do is give her the opportunity for the best future possible. I don't think any effort is lost as I view these skills as skills for life. Good luck to everyone :)

Hi Hamsa! Welcome to the group, I am in the same position for my child (Year 4). All we can do is try and guide them and see how they get on. I am new to all this myself and I feel that I am struggling on “where to start”. My plan of action for this half term is doing the vocabulary flash cards to help on the English side of things and go from there. How are you finding it so far, is your child year 4 or year 5? X
