Another Skool post quotes Anne Lamott and first drafts. Her "Short Assignments" chapter in Bird by Bird inspired me to keep writing in focused, small bursts: "all I have to do is write down as much as I can see through a one-inch picture frame." She tells of her 10-year-old younger brother, panicking because his term paper on birds was due the next morning and he had yet to start writing. "Then my father sat down beside him, put his arm around my brother's shoulder, and said, 'Bird by bird, budddy. Just take it bird by bird.'" Kinda like saying the longest journey begins with a single small step.
