Bring the Weather
When I think about what I want to bring to this community (all the time), I invariably end up thinking about breakthrough realizations that I got over the last couple years: through my toughest adult times. Right, so that’s the question I keep asking, the energy I keep sending out.
Mel Robbins keeps popping up.
And the short below reminds me of a lesson I got from my grandmother 40 years ago: leaders bring the weather.
She spent a LOT of her time caring for family. I was the 13th child brought under her roof, but I was not the last by a mile.
Outside of that she gave to her community by being a leader in her church: running mass helping with communion. I get now that this was how (one of many ways) she cared for herself: Bound & Breathe.
With that, she had the capacity to raise me and be present for all of her family. She brought the calm, sunny weather that I needed to learn to feel safe again.
Reminiscing with cousins who had married into our family, they mentioned loving that they never felt like second-class family, never by any Harrington, but they were especially embraced by Grammy Barbra.
And I know it’s true for each of us who were lucky enough to call her ours.
Thanks, Gram!
