The Most Important Thing To Consider During Confrontations
Daily Dose of Integrity
I've worked with people seeking help with confrontations for decades now. I've come to the conclusion that the best intention you can have is to build self-respect.
Intention is the only thing that you can control. It requires nothing from anyone else. No matter how good you are at confrontations, there is no guaranteed way to control another person.
You cannot force people to even listen to you, let alone change their behaviour and treat you with respect or do what you prefer. As soon as you have attachment to outcomes, you've already lost, because no matter how good you get at your tactics— you just won't be able to control everyone.
While you cannot control other people, you can make the reason you engage in confrontations and boundary setting clear to yourself: it’s about building your confidence through building self-respect.
