Grok (not Groq) - give me the laydown ...

Here, I have seen some people talk about Grok by Elon Musk.

I am a bit confused, because Grok seems to encompass a couple of different things.

So this is what I understood.

Grok:

1) a Chatbot to be accessed through x.com as a Premium member

2) the API to the LLM behind the chatbot (described here: https://apidog.com/blog/xai-grok-api/)

3) Grok-1 which is the non-finetuned LLM itself and has been open-sourced -> only interesting for researchers ? https://x.ai/blog/grok-os

but too big to host yourself.

It does not work in a lot of non-US countries.

My questions: What is it good for? What is the benefit of using it as compared to OpenAI or another open-source LLM model like e.g. Mistral? Any new developments I have missed?
