Need advice.

I am a computer programming student in college and I have been learning coding since 2020 and a month ago I called a web designing company and told them I would like to work for free and asked them if they want my resume or my linkdin/github link and I told them that i started learning coding in 2020 and that I am passionate in it and they said they will contact if they need and they just didnt even cared to see resume or my social media profile and they didnt called back.And now I am in bus going to ask other web development company to ask the same.

Should I continue to ask other companies to ask if I can work free for.them.What would you do if you were in my situation and what you do if you were the HR/manager of the company?I would love to hear what you think?
