Wisdoms Origin
‘The Lord possessed me in the beginning of his way, before his works of old.’ Proverbs 8:22
This verse speaks of wisdom’s eternal origin, emphasizing that wisdom is not a human invention but an attribute of God Himself. Wisdom was present with God at the very beginning of creation, even before the foundations of the world were laid. This reveals that wisdom is deeply embedded in the fabric of creation, serving as the divine order by which everything was made and continues to function.
John 1:1-3 provides a parallel, saying, "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made." Here, the "Word" (Jesus Christ) embodies wisdom as the agent of creation. Just as Proverbs 8:22 attributes wisdom to God’s eternal nature, John highlights that Christ, as the Word, is integral to the divine order and purpose.
Colossians 1:16-17 further underscores this connection, stating, "For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible... and by him all things consist." Christ, the living wisdom of God, sustains all creation. To walk in wisdom, therefore, is to align oneself with the divine principles that govern life and the universe, recognizing that wisdom is not separate from God but flows directly from His character.
Practically, Proverbs 8:22 calls us to recognize the divine source of wisdom and to revere it as foundational to our lives. Since wisdom existed before all creation, it is trustworthy and unchanging, offering guidance that transcends time and human understanding. This should inspire us to seek God’s wisdom earnestly in our decisions, relationships, and pursuits, knowing that it aligns us with the eternal purposes of the Creator. By embracing wisdom, we participate in the order and beauty of God’s design, ensuring that our lives reflect His glory and truth.
