Wicked
I've been a fan of Jon M. Chu for the longest. Like the Step up Movies are my favorite dance movies because they just represented the part of me that grew up wanting to be a dancer. I'm gonna need to make a whole other post about my love for him, but let's talk about what he did with the masterpiece that is Wicked.
DISCLAIMER I have *not* watched the Broadway Musical nor I have read the multiple books that the musical is based on. I'm gonna talk about strictly of this movie directed by Jon M. Chu.
The casting of this movie is the best thing that the movie has. Ariana Grande was born to play Galinda/Glinda. The comedic timing, the singing, the dancing, the acting, the PINK PERSONIFICATION. And not in one moment I felt like she was overplaying it, or underpaying it. Cynthia Erivo.. man what a performance. The depth she gives to Elphaba is breathtaking and hypnotizing. I related to her character the most, just for the way she cares for others and I admire her for standing up for what she believes in even if it keeps alienatining her from others. HER SINGING is out of this world, and I really hope she makes history by earning the missing O to her EGOT.
The movie is 2hrs and a half, even though it feels stretched out, I think all that the movie gives us is needed to bring the story to the conclusion it had.
I'm dreading the 1 year wait for part 2, but I respect the process.
100% reccomend for all of you to see this movie, and if you saw it already tell me what you thought!
"TOSS TOSS" and carry on peeps.
