With all of the brokerages closing, going bankrupt, truckers also having issues, are you safe in your space?
I think it is really hard to predict the freight future in this climate. I am not sure I have ever seen it so volatile. Our company was founded on doing container and transload brokering. We still have clients form day one that send business to us on the daily. But I can tell you even those clients are looking for bottom dollar costs as they are being squeezed. Trying to compete is getting hard. We have also been way down on container/transload volumes.
What has been up is our expedited business. 300% actually. And our large over sized flatbed work is also way up. It is making up for the container work that has been drying up.
I think as a business owner, or even agent/employee you always need to be working in your business and make sales a good habit. Call people you have not heard form in a while. If you are local drop by or send lunch. Differentiate yourselves from others because many companies do not give a personal touch any longer.
I know we will survive the volatility and we may have new niches that come of it. Keep digging and grinding that is my advice to yall out there.
