Can You Rank For Multiple Primary Categories In Google Maps?
When you’re creating your Google Business Profile, You’ll notice that it makes you choose only one primary category like car detailing service. You should pick the category that your target customer is looking for. But what if you want to rank in the map pack for “car detailing service” and something like “window tinting service” too. In my experience as an SEO manager, I worked with a client that’s primary service was HVAC but they eventually started offering plumbing and electrical services. After working with them for several years, I had them ranking in the first map pack position for HVAC in their area. As I built out their website to include more plumbing and electrical content, they slowly started to move up the rank for each of these respective services and eventually they were ranking in the map pack for all 3 industries. Also, the primary category shown for the business changed respective of each search that I made. So when I typed in “HVAC (city)” their primary category was HVAC. When I searched “Plumber (city)” their primary category showed as plumber. It is completely possible to rank for 2 or 3 different services, as long as you have the content and GBP optimization to support it. Choose your main keyword target and a secondary keyword target and build out content for both.
