Homework Day 1 - video
All my public videos and program videos are scripted. I have found clearly articulating my ideas off-riff to be not so good. I haven't yet found a way to create clear structure in my mind as I go. So I generally write out my script and refine it, then read from a teleprompter.
So for this homework, I went unscripted, and unplanned. I started with the idea I wanted to embody "The Motivator" which is an archetype I have not been good at. The only thing I planned was "I want to tell you a story about Tony"...
On review of the video, here is my own assessment:
Essence - Good
Presence - Good
Image - Average (definitely want a better Image / location / studio / lighting. I feel movement and eye contact are excellent
Sound - Good (want equipment upgrades)
Language - OK (a few fillers I discovered on review, and without structure it's a bit of a ramble)
Pace - Excellent
Pitch - Great
Power - OK
Pause - Excellent
I found without a script I had no structure, and so the video took it's own path, and ended up not being about Tony so much. So I had to bring that around at the end. It ended up being over 8 minutes which surprised me, I thought I talked for about 3 minutes. lol
The Two things I feel require the most attention are
  • Structure on the fly (I have zero idea how to improve this) Eg "hook/problem == solution == etc"
  • Copy writing - increase IMPACT, less waffle.
Looking forward to other perspectives. Go your hardest!
