Hello everybody, I am currently a freshman seeking out for any advice on extracurricular activities I can do this year. So, let me break down my interests and current things I'm involved with.... I am a STEM-loving student, who is specifically interested in mathematics and life/ engineering-based sciences. While I haven't decided what I want to pursue, I know it's likely going to be along those lines.
That being said, let me share out a list of what ECs I'm doing. Keep in mind that this is my first year of HS, so I am trying to explore as well as excel:
- Math Team (our club takes the AMC 10 with a few AIME qualifiers. We've made and placed top 5 several times at our state competition)
- Science Olympiad (our varsity team qualifies for state every year. We typically place top 10, but never have qualified for nationals)
- Business Professionals of America (I know this isn't related to what I want to do, but it will help me explore. We qualify for nationals in a few events, so I think it can take me far)
- Volunteering (I currently tutor students on an online platform in a variety of math subjects... Aiming to get 100+ hours)
- Tennis (this is my favorite sport, so I want to stick with it. While I am not so good, it's something fun I would like to do this year)
- Student council (I am currently one of 30 class representatives for freshmen... Is it worth it to continue with this?)
So, I am open to any new clubs/ advice.... One thing that's been on my mind is research, but like many of you, I don't know where to start. I hope each of these activities can take me far, but once again, please critique or give me any advice! My goal is to find something like research to enhance my STEM portfolio. Thank you!!!
