Continue with Student Council?

I'm currently in the equivalent of 9th grade, and I have a big set of state exams at the end of the year, so I need to study a lot. I've been on the student council for the past two years. I was really involved in the first year, but not so much in the second. Honestly, I could stay on the council without doing much, since that's what a lot of people do. But if I continue with it, by the time I reach the equivalent of 12th grade, I could apply to be head boy/head girl (but I have to show what contributions I made to SC). There's no valedictorian where I'm from, so should I keep going with it?
