Unlocking the 10-Year Long-Term Resident Visa (LTR) in Thailand
Since Thailand launched its innovative 10-year Long-Term Resident (LTR) visa program in September 2022, we've been inundated with inquiries about the eligibility criteria for obtaining an LTR visa.
The LTR visa program has captivated the attention of foreigners desiring to call the kingdom home, thanks to its enticing benefits that streamline long-term residency processes.
馃拵Here's a glimpse of the exclusive privileges LTR visa holders can expect:馃拵
馃専 A 10-year visa with unlimited entries into Thailand. Initially, permission is granted for a five-year stay, extendable for another five years if requirements are met.
馃専 Authorization to work in Thailand and acquire a work permit for the visa holder and their spouse. 馃専 For LTR visa recipients in the Highly-Skilled Professional category, a discounted personal income tax rate of 17% on employment income earned in targeted industries.
馃専 Access to Fast Track services at international airports and simplified immigration reporting, reduced to once a year instead of the typical 90-day requirement.

馃拵Application Procedures for LTR Visas馃拵
If you believe you qualify for an LTR visa and can provide the necessary supporting documents, here's how to kickstart the application process:
  1. Register and apply online via the LTR visa website.
  2. Within 20 working days of receiving complete documents, applicants will be notified of the result.
  3. Essential documents include the LTR visa application form (TM.94), passport (or equivalent), and an endorsement letter from the Board of Investment (BOI).
馃拵For accompanying family members (spouse/children), similar documentation is required.馃拵
Upon approval, successful applicants will receive an endorsement letter from Thailand's Board of Investment, paving the way for their LTR visa.
Next Steps After Receiving the BOI Endorsement Letter
Once you've secured the BOI endorsement qualification letter, here's what comes next:
  1. Apply for the visa within 60 days from the endorsement letter issuance date.
  2. Submit the endorsement letter along with the visa application to the Immigration Bureau.
  3. Visa applicants must apply in person and pay the application fee of Baht 50,000.
For those applying from overseas, the process remains largely the same, with applications submitted to the Royal Thai Embassy/Consulate within 60 days of the BOI endorsement letter issuance.
馃拵Understanding the STM.8 Form 馃拵
The Thai Immigration Bureau has introduced the STM.8 form, tailored specifically for LTR visa applicants. This form, titled "Criteria and Conditions Acknowledgement Form for a Temporary Stay Permit in the Kingdom (LTR Visa)," must be completed by the applicant to acknowledge the criteria and conditions for their stay in Thailand.
The applicant must acknowledge various conditions, including adhering to immigration regulations, notifying authorities of their address annually, and understanding grounds for permission termination.
馃拵Accessing LTR Visa Forms馃拵
Official visa application forms can be obtained from the Thai Immigration Bureau, Royal Thai Embassy/Consulate, or downloaded from the Bangkok Immigration website.
LTR Visa Stamp and Passport Validity
Upon successful completion of the LTR visa application process, applicants will receive a visa stamp in their passport, initially granting permission to stay for five years.
If the passport's validity is less than five years, permission to stay aligns with the passport's expiry date. The visa stamp can be transferred to a new passport free of charge before the old passport expires.
馃拵Address Notification and Extending LTR Visas馃拵
LTR visa holders must notify immigration of their address annually. To extend their stay beyond the first five years, LTR visa holders must reapply for an endorsement letter from the BOI and submit the necessary documents for visa extension before the first term expires.
With the LTR visa program, Thailand beckons with extended opportunities for those seeking a long-term stay in this enchanting land.
