1:1 Student Referral
Hello fellow teacherpreneurs! I have a potential client who reached out to me but isn't the best fit for my areas of expertise. If you are currently open to taking on more 1:1 clients and can check at least a few of these boxes, or can recommend another teacher who does, please reply! - Enjoy teaching beginners - Have experience teaching teenagers or young adults - Have experience teaching learners on the autism spectrum - Living in the Western Hemisphere and available between 1 PM and 3 PM PST. Please reply if you or someone you know might be interested--this potential client is ready to sign up for classes and I don't want to turn them away without someone to recommend to them!

Looking for a community
Hi, my name is Jill. I've been teaching one-to-one online for five years, I started out on italki but now mostly have my own, private clients. I would really like to start moving away from the one-to-one model and providing asynchronous courses but it feels like a long way off at the moment. My business goals for the next 30 days are to get a clearer picture of what I am going to offer and get a basic website up and running. I'm hoping to find a community here of people on similar journeys. At the moment I don't know anyone else in a similar career.

Hi Jill, how have things going for you lately? I can relate with the difficulty of finding colleagues on similar journeys--I have had to really search to find other people who could relate to what I'm trying to do! It's so important to have that support because the early days of launching out on your own are fraught with uncertainty and self-doubt and you need people who are a bit further down the road to tell you it's all going to work out!
Hello from Iowa, USA!
Hello everyone, I am a teacher entrepreneur working with Spanish speaking adults at beginning and low intermediate levels. I love experimenting with flexible delivery methods to allow my students to improve their English listening and speaking skills at any time of the day, even if they just have a few minutes. This is my 4th year running my own business but I feel like things are just starting to fall in place--it takes longer than you think to figure out what works, because first you have to find a lot of things that don't! I would enjoy connecting with some of you who are just getting started--I really love encouraging new teacherpreneurs in their journey!

@Andrew Woodbury Thanks for the welcome! Right now I am experimenting with a new flexible model for 1-on-1 classes using voice messaging on WhatsApp. I'm excited about the possibilities, and I was able to get quite a few people to jump on board right away, so I'm hopeful it will be appealing to a broader audience, but I need to test it out first and see how it works for my students as well as how much of my time it requires before pushing it out to the general public. The proof is in the pudding, as they say!

@Michael Landry Thank you!
Hello TSN!
I'm Charlotte and I'm a language trainer (English and French) living in Central California, USA. I joined this community because I've realized seeking out mentorship and a community is much better than trying to launch myself as an independent consultant all on my own! I've taught French for two years in a university as a graduate student, English for one year in three French K-5 public schools, and I'm finishing up my first year as an independent contractor developing and running an online EFL-teacher training program for a group in France. I feel like I have a good handle on the academic parts of teaching English (but always with room to grow!) - I've got "the academic qualifications," classroom and virtual teaching experience, a website/blog and linked in page I try to post on 1x/week, a few current clients, but I'm not sure how to keep the momentum going with the work I've already done over the last year to scale a long-term business I love. Any and all advice in this area would be greatly appreciated! My business goals for the next 30 days (June 4-July 4) are to onboard three new clients for summer English or French training, revamp my website to incorporate some new branding I've had made, put together a program summary of what I've done over the past 8 months with my current client, and commit 12 hours minimum to building a course that I can offer on my website. I'm not sure what all this community offers, but I'm excited to have found a community to learn from and contribute to on this journey! Best and bon courage ("be of good courage"/cheers) :) Charlotte

Hi Charlotte, it's nice to meet you! How have things been going with your business over the past few months? It's great meeting another US-based teacher entrepreneur, it can sometimes be tricky to find each other since this whole concept of independent teaching seems to be somewhat uncommon here in comparison with what I can observe in many EFL contexts. It's definitely a growing trend, though, it just takes a bit of work to connect with colleagues doing similar things!
