So it's Saturday and half the day is gone. Did you do anything unusual today or as part of your weekend? I'm making my famous cornbread for our church chili cook-off. It's always lots of fun and we have some very good cooks at my church just like so many other churches. Let's hear how your weekend is going. This year I applied to be a poll working. They only had poll watcher positions available so I volunteered. It's cool, it was my first experience working the polls and I really enjoyed the experience. As a poll watcher I am responsible for watching what goes on, watch for anything unusual, any funny business with the workers, equipment, problems, etc. I did all those things, as the watcher, I also saw some things that I didn't expect. I saw newly married couples come in, excited to be casing their votes together. I saw families with their children and babies in toe, taking them into the booth to cast their votes. As a family they were through the whole process. The kids get real excited cause they got a cool sticker. We have the I Voted stickers, but we also have a child designed special sticker that also said I Voted. I saw people take pictures of themselves or as a group. We did that too. Very proud for me. I was surprised at how many groups of friends came together to cast their votes. The joy people were feeling before and after voting was amazing. And I loved when a first time voter was identified and everyone, all the workers, just everyone clapped and cheered for them. I had never experienced that when I went and voted on election day. Maybe that was the difference, it is NOT election day. It's early voting, one week ahead of Nov. 5. I would love to hear your experience with voting this year. Do you wait until election day to vote, or maybe you do mail-in ballots? Do you do vote early and is it an option where you live?

Recently, I was talking with a friend about our community. What would they think would be interesting to others? So I'm asking what are your areas of expertise and interest? I don't know everything, far from it, and I can't read minds. I can talk about what I have done during my life and that's great, but not everyone is interested in my adventures. Don't worry, I will still share my adventures. Still, I'd really like to know your interest, a favorite hobby, the how too's and that special tip, trick, hack or lesson. This is OUR community, not my community. I want you to be comfortable inviting people to join in and talk about the old days, the new days, the things you look forward to and sometimes even the pain as we grown older.
