Does anyone have a good DIY website design tool that you’ve used in the past? I have a friend who is looking to launch a crafting business for her quilting. She doesn’t want to spend an arm & leg to create a website.

Having built literally thousands of websites for a variety of businesses, I second @John Watson 's suggestion of starting with Etsy to test the market. It is what is known as an "online marketplace", so it's an ideal place to establish visibility by appealing to a broad audience of other artists, crafters, and designers, as well as leverage their platform to sell and ship her products. As she builds an audience and starts selling more products consistently, then she can look into building her own ecommerce site. While building one's own unique site sounds appealing, there are a ton of hidden complexities and costs. Outside of building an ecommerce site, there's the challenge of getting found- a detail most people forget about when building any kind of site. Unlike Field of Dreams, building it doesn't mean they will come. You have to invest a ton of time and often times money into effective marketing to drive visitors to your site. Point being, start with a platform designed specifically to support her type of business, then grow and scale from there.
