Crashing waves
So, this was a scrap canvas that I had left and although it was heavily wrinkled, I figured that I would do something creative with it, instead of throwing it away. And the following was the result.

@Kirsten Jooste I'm glad that you enjoyed watching it. I would make more oil painting videos, but I'm out of certain bread and butter colours.
Studio Update!
Hi everyone! I'm excited to be here on this community and share art recources / art and just vibe with fellow artists. I've recently updated my studio something I've been working towards for years and years and I just wanted to share it! I started out on a tiny floor space in my boyfriends bedroom and today I actually have a studio space dedicated to my business and artistic freedom. https://www.instagram.com/reel/DB5wkO3KjwH/?igsh=bWVyYjlrMjE5ajUy

Welcome Teneal. Cool art and studio space. I converted the garage into my art studio back in 2011, and I was lucky enough to be able to use it until 2018 when disaster struck and the roof partially collapsed. Had to move back into the main house into a small bedroom where I only have a counter top and easel to do my drawings on.

@Teneal Kotzé Well, I do try to focus on the positive. What's most important is that I'm able to create, no matter what space I find myself in. Yes, my dream will always be to have a proper art studio one day, so that's one of my main goals. And to reach that, I will have to keep pushing forward and create to the best of my ability.
Cracked motivation
I went through a traumatic event in 2018 which ruined me financially, physically and mentally for many years. Since then I feel like my progress as a career illustrator has stalled. Partly because I'm not making enough to get the gear I need, but mainly because the experience somehow left me less confident, less productive, and more fearful of producing bad work. Has anyone had a similar experience and how are you holding up?

Life has its challenges and every now, and again it throws you a curveball that you really didn't expect. I can't even begin to imagine your situation, but just know that you are more resilient than you think. As an artist, it’s painfully easy to feel overwhelmed by despair, especially when the creative flow runs dry and self-doubt seeps in. But in those moments, remember that you’re not alone; every artist grapples with these feelings at some point. Instead of letting despair consume you, try to channel it into your work—use that raw emotion as fuel for your creativity. Allow yourself to take a step back and breathe; sometimes, the pressure to produce can cloud your vision. Embrace the imperfections and struggles, for they are part of your journey. Reach out to fellow creators, share your feelings, and lean on one another for support. Let your art be a reflection of your resilience, a testament to your ability to rise from the shadows. Each stroke, each word, or each note can become a powerful reminder that beauty often emerges from pain. Keep creating, keep believing, and remember that every setback can lead to an incredible comeback. You have within you the strength to turn despair into something magnificent.

@Kirsten Jooste Life's lessons can seem harsh and unforgiving, yes, but a lot of times you also emerge stronger and more resilient on the other side when you look at those stumble blocks as stepping stones and learn from them. It made you braver and smarter than the person that you use to be.

@Cheslin Cottee So far, I worked with oil paint, pencil, charcoal, ink, and acrylics. I tried gauche and water colours a few times before, and I'm yet to try colour pencils and sculpting. Which I'm so looking forward to trying. I try not to limit myself to just one or two mediums. It's god to be versatile as an artist.
