Hi everyone. Some time ago I was looking around online for cool max 4 live devices and I "found" the J74 HarmonTool. I know some level of music theory, but not at a level where I feel that I can flow on a music exploration cloud of magical wonder when I make music. To explore my ideas into different areas, I have tried many different theory "helper" tools to make the process a bit more...free. Scaler, Captain plugins/epic, instachord/scale and so one, but they all get kind of clunky to work with. Scaler is a bad ass plugin and I still use it for some things. But I was still looking for something that worked more like a native thing in ableton. At first when I found J74 HarmoTool I did not read the manual and the one video on youtube about the tool was not the best in my opinion. So I kind of put the tool aside, small moment of ADHD brain at that moment. Last night I read the manual and experimented for some hours using the tool and I think it is VERY cool. You have a "Chord track" in ableton where you can play chord information live or via clips and it can reshape already recorded clips to work with the chords you play. Ex. Lets say that I have a synth riff in a midi clip in c major. I also have an idea for a bass pattern in c major. I then have the chord track, it can output audio or not depending on what you want to do. Now when I jam chords on the chord track, the already recorded synth riff and bass pattern will follow the chords that I play, but keep the structure of note intact. There is more to the tool then this, but this is just one thing that I find very useful when exploring new ideas. And oh....it is free. https://fabriziopoce.com/HarmoTools.html
