I learn best when I'm able to engage with content through thinking and doing. Sometimes it's as simple as repeating something I've learned during conversation ("I just heard in a podcast that..." or "There was an article in the paper about the..."). And sometimes it's as solitary as taking notes and writing summaries or responses. But for the past few weeks, a couple friends and I have been learning by forming a little study group. We've been going through the Exodus course together. We'll read and reflect on the scripture for one session ahead of time. Then we'll get together, chat about our initial thoughts and questions before watching the Learning Labs session together. Then we'll revisit any questions, share, and choose an action step inspired by the scriptures that we can support one another with throughout the next week. It's been a beautiful experience. First of all, Pastor Andres is a brilliant teacher who offers a perspective that makes the relational and situational dynamics so relatable, personal and present that we forget that we're reading an ancient text. But also, it's been most beautiful to wrestle with what we believe and come to terms with how we see the world now. Having an action step has given us stories and added gravity to our insights. We're about to take a longish hiatus due to summer travel, so we're looking for more ideas on how to engage well with these courses. Would love to hear what you've been doing and what's been most important to you as you take in the Learning Labs content.
