Skate Movies
What movie(s) first got you interested in Skating? For me, and I'm dating myself a bit here, it was Xanadu and Roller Boogie. I can also remember seeing Gregory Hines skating in The Muppets Take Manhattan, although I believe Miss Piggy skated more than he did in that movie,😁.

Honestly, there wasn't a movie that initially made me interested in skating, but I must have watched The Muppets Take Manhattan 200 times as a kid, vhs days, and I remembered that scene immediately when you mentioned it 😂
30 Day Skate Challenge
Who's down to do a 30 day skate challenge? 30 days of putting your skates on for at least 15-20min and practicing something/anything, even if it's just straight up balancing drills. It's Monday, and there's no day like Today to start something new. I'm working a 10 hr shift but brought my skates into work to put on during my lunch hr. If anyone would like to do their own 30 Day Challenge, let me know. I would love to share some accountability and encouragement 🙏😊

@Chad Silvis we may not be 20 anymore, but slow and steady progress will still get us pretty far! I know I've seen stretching exercises for helping to open up the hips, but you've got me wondering now about what to do if you've reached maximum mobility... Like, what are the accommodations that can be done to still accomplish certain moves, or at least a version of them🤔

Today should be day 18, but I'm on day 14 due to traveling, then getting sick 😞 1.out running around from the minute we got up to being at an all day music festival with only grass and no place to skate 2. Traveling from the minute we got up to getting home at 2am, and I was just not daring enough to skate in the airport.. Maybe some day! 3 and 4. Fever, neck pain and migraines wiped me out. I am on the mend, not at 100%, but I wanted to at least get on my skates again and I'm glad I pushed through to get back on the wagon. In other news, I did get to spend some time at Skateworld while out in CA, but it was early Sunday and I don't think I've ever seen so many skatemates out on the floor in my life 😅. Short video of me stopping short because I could just feel them next to me, lol.. That spidey sense you need to dodge them is real 👀 And I got to visit the Fritzy's skate shop there, but it was not the huge emporium I imagined. The stock was pretty limited compared to what is shown online. I really wanted a skateworld tshirt and figured I'd just order it online, along with a pair of skate socks that looked exactly like the classic roller rink carpet... But 2 days later my order was refunded because they didn't have them in stock... So that was a bit of a bummer. But now I can cross that rink off my list.
Arius plate and what boot??
I am setting up my dream skate setup which includes an Arius plate and a nice boot. After chatting with a local skate shop, they're recommending I get only a reidell 336 boot with an Arius plate. I'm worried it'll be too stiff - any skaters out there with an Arius plate? If so, what boots are you rocking? Thanks!!

I have a Reidell 120 boot with an arius plate. The pivot cup that cushions the kingpin on a previous plate disentegrated mid skate session and I ended up paying enough floor tax for a year that session before realizing what happened. I think it traumatized me to the point that I became interested in the Arius because it's designed without the kingpin, and I saw a lot of positive feedback from other skaters about it. I skated mostly in a softer boot before and wasn't sure how much id like a softer boot, so opted for the 120 boot. I know it's a lower end model, but I figured the plate will outlive the boot and I can always mount them on a different boot later. So far I like the 120 a lot and am enjoying a stiffer boot. I will probably upgrade the boot in a couple of years, but for now I'm happy with this set up.

@Alona Sukhina correct, it was a different plate that came on the moonlight roller skates I had. That company is no longer in business, but their skates are still for sale in some skate shops. The plate is just listed as aluminum alloy, doesn't specify a brand. So far I'm really enjoying the arius plate!
Mohawk turn
Hey all, first post here. I started skating about 2 years ago as an adult. And I think I'm making pretty good progress. I can skate confidently forward and backwards. I can balance on one foot forwards and backwards and even around the turns now I can balance to one foot. My biggest challenge right now is turning around forward to backward without stopping. I've gone to several adult classes here locally. And several instructions have tried to walk me through the Mohawk turn and I am still having trouble doing it correctly. If I slow down enough I can fake it and make it work but I'm not able to confidently do it at regular skating speed. I know there are several videos online but just curious if anyone has any tips on mastering this simple looking turn.

@Tina Kinsley @John Reynolds i cannot agree more and emphasize this enough. I was doing crossovers for years thinking I was doing them just fine. During a skate lesson my instructor held my shoulders and turned them way further than I thought they needed to be and it opened up a new level of working edges. Shoulders and hips are your steering wheels and we often don't realize we're not using them effectively because we're concentrating so much on our feet and balance.

You ever skate so damn hard that the next day your legs are just cooked and your like oh damn this day gonna suck?! Yeah that's me right now......I forget that maybe I need to take it a little slower (my mind "get it!" My body " dude your 49, chill")
