I enjoyed very much the last synodal coffee which was the first one I participated in. Unfortunately I shall not be able to participate in the next one as I will be at the Plenary meeting of SACBC. There we shall have a whole day on the Synod including a 'Conversation in the Holy Spirit' session with all the Bishops divided in small groups like at the first session of the Synod. I shall be one of the facilitators. Please pray for us.

I listened to session 2 . It was great to hear what you shared. Echos of what you said sound also in me. I tried to be part of today's conversation but did not manage to link up. At the moment I am preparing an input during the January Plenary session of SACBC. I am asked to look at the Introduction and part I of the Synthesis report.

@Paula Vega Dear Paula, I did not realise that 19h00 in New York means 02h00 am here in South Africa. At my age that's a bit too much to ask. Sorry about that.
How we can make the kingdom of God real in a world that has changed a lot in recent years
Before reading this article, I invite you to ask yourselves this question and if you find any answer, feel free to comment with us 🧡 A Synod of “many differences” but without “fights”. This is how Cardinal Cristóbal López, archbishop of Rabat, defined the meetings that have taken place during the celebration of the Synod of Synodality. You can read the complete article here! Let me know what you think

I was asked to be part of a preparatory committee to help the Bishops to have an experience of 'discernment in the Spirit'. We have planned a whole day at the forthcoming January Plenary of SACBC on the Synod. We felt that it is not enough to hear the witness of those who participated in the Synod but to make the experience ourselves.
My concern about Synodality is that we don't see it through to the end
How do you think Synodality will shape the future of our church? 💭 For example, Julian Paparella, Canadian and theology student in Rome, thinks: "My concern is that we may not take this all the way, that it becomes a passing experience rather than a transformative force for our church. If we remain stagnant, if we see it as a mere opinion survey, we won't fulfill God's dream for the church in this third millennium." ➡️ If you want to watch Julian's video about Synodality, click HERE and don't forget to follow us! 🧡

This past week we had the SACBC Administrative Board meeting where Archbishop Dabula Mpako shared his experience of the Synod in Rome, being one of the Delegates. After his input we decided to have as main focus of our January SACBC Plenary 'Synod on Synodality' and have a whole day not just hearing from those who have been there in Rome but making the experience ourselves of sharing in the Spirit (in small groups).
The virgin Mary and the Synodal Church
In the last chapter of a book from Piero Coda, theologian belonging to the Focolare movement, ca lled 'Chiesa Sinodale nell'oggi della storia' (only in Italian), the writer makes an interesting link between Mary and a Synodal Church. We are all invited to enter into the school of Mary and grow into her style of life "meditating on what we have heard and seen". He refers to the place Mary has relating to the Church as described in Lumen Gentium of Vatican II and to the message of Pope Francis for the Feast of Mary, Mother of the Church in 2022. Mary is the principle and the profile of the Church being the mother of the Son of God.

I see Mary's role as fundamental to the growth of the Church especially in her mission of care. The Church has both a Petrine and Marian profile and both are essential. Mary, for me, stands for the more charismatic part of the Church both of Religious Congregations and Lay movements.
