New Name & New Video
FYI: I gave the community a quick name change to 'Map Makers' to keep it more accessible & the about page got some improvements. Maybe I'll put the group on private soon. Also got another video out - generating transportation routes & travel times using atlas.co https://youtu.be/bREcJotpgtM

Community Update: Global Transit Routes for Download
Hi all, something I have for you today: free downloadable transit routes. Yes, you can get this from OpenStreetMap too, but it's up-to-date and available in different geometries with easy filtering as you only download your selection. It's in the resources section along with a lot of other data & tools aswell. https://loom.cs.uni-freiburg.de/global#tram/geo/4/44.9336963896947/36.03515625000001 I believe in November we'll be getting new themes for the 30 Day Map Challenge by the original organizers, so stay tuned for whatever we'll be hosting in here by then.

Also doing a little side quest in learning about Python programming & Data science so I'll be adding some more around that to the community aswell (if my skillset allows me to learn anything worthwhile🤣)
Community Update!
Hi all, today I got some new tools for you which I found and added to the resources section: - maptable.com - probably the cheapest GIS software out there along with atlas.co & aino.world - flourish.studio - awesome data visualisation tool (with some mapping features) Sorry the video cut off, but wanted to say if you have a project to showcase or promote feel free to reach out & we might be able to do a little webinar style video!

Community Update!!
Hi all, I moved today's community call back a few hours due to other responsibilities. Check the calendar to see if you can hop on. As for the community update: this week I updated the list of national geodata portals again. You can quickly check what I managed to find yet in this map: https://demo.geoapps.nl/dataportals Additionally, I created a new video on how to navigate your skillset in the GIS-sector in the career help section. From interactions in DMs, I got aware many of you guys are mostly looking for work. Please let me know your exact problems in that domain in the meeting or drop a comment below 👇

How to never get replaced by AI in GIS
Hi all, I am making a video on not getting replaced by AI in the GIS sector. You see, I think the core principle would go for many different sectors but this is what it comes down to. In all honesty, I don't think it should be as much of a concern for many people as it is now, but I do think it's valuable to anticipate to what the market will look like as AI and automations develop and replace certain tasks. Either you become a: - Generalist: someone with a wide skillset that can easily adapt to changes - Specialist: someone with a very skillset so specialized AI couldn't match or replace it I explain it a little deeper in this video: https://youtu.be/DJD-RCtoOPU Now I am considering improving my setup with a bigger microphone and camera at some point but hope you enjoy it nonetheless🤣 Personally I consider myself more of a generalist, but I wouldn't say one is better than the other as long as you're aware of which you are and which you wish to be. Let me know your thoughts as well!
