I woke this morning with this question on my mind! If you train your dog to find the native British truffle— could they also find other varieties? Please hit me with the answers— happy Sunday
I believe absolutely that not only do truffle species smell differently to a dog but also, they can smell a difference between two of the same species. One of the things with training is to introduce your dog to various truffles within a species throughout the season so they know that's what your interested in finding. Each truffle VOCs profile is different. Some dogs are literal and will only find truffles that smell like what they've been introduced to. Other dogs are generalists and will find anything that smells somewhat similar. I believe most dogs are somewhere in-between.
We hope everyone had a great Part 1 class!! Unfortunately we were unable to connect from the U.S. on the Zoom class. It’s prompted on Error Code stating “This Zoom meeting is not accessible from the United States”. 😔😞😭 Fingers crossed that in the future we can join in on the classes.
We had a ruff day last week, whilst having a tooth removed Ralph had a cardiac arrest. Thankfully the team were quick to react and here he is resting at home. Heading to mature native woodlands tomorrow for a bit more training and exploring.
