Reading Section: Multiple Choice Tips
Hi everyone! I just wanted to share a few tips I use to help make answering multiple-choice questions on the reading section of the ACT a bit easier. 1. FORMULATE YOUR OWN ANSWER FIRST: After you read a question, try to come up with your own answer before you review the options they give you. This can help you immediately eliminate some options that don't align with your understanding of the text. 2. BEWARE OF TRICKS: Remember that many questions will try to trick you by including two answers that both SEEM correct. Keep in mind that the wrong answer will either be too BROAD, too NARROW, or NOT TRUE for that section of the text. Read each option carefully! 3. DON'T OVER-COMPLICATE THINGS: Don't try to mentally argue or add to an answer choiceโ€”use only what the choice provides (In other words, if you find yourself saying, "Well, if I look at it this way, it makes sense..." it's probably not correct!). 4. REMEMBER CONTEXT: Some questions may refer to the main idea of only a few specific lines, while others may ask you about the main idea of the entire passage. Make sure your answer reflects the proper context of the question. For example, if a question asks about "the main purpose of the fourth paragraph," your answer should address only the purpose of the fourth paragraph, not the entire passage. Let me know if you would like to see specific examples where these tips may apply! I'd be happy to share a few practice problems and walk you through the process of selecting the best choice.

English Grammar Advice
Hi, guys! My name is Lucy, and I am a junior at The Wellington School in Columbus, Ohio. :) I love English and consider myself pretty well-versed in grammar rules. If anyone is finding the English portion of the ACT challenging, I'd be happy to break down some tricky topics for you! Feel free to reach out (or comment on this post) if you need tips, explanations, or just some extra guidance in addition to the support that Mr. Brown already provides. Hope everyone's ACT prep is going well!

Loom Video Requests!
Hey Students - as you approach the September ACT, questions arise. Whether it's about a question you ultimately got right but took a long time to answer, or a question you missed and thought you knew, the name of the game in the week or so before this next test is streamlining your thought processes. Fortunately for you, you have a bona fide expert in your corner. I use the exact same strategies I'm teaching all of you currently to finish the English section in less than half the allotted time, and the math section in about 40 of a possible 60 minutes - all without missing a single question. How? Well - now's your time to ask. Whatever questions you have as you prepare for the test, ask them here! I will post as many videos as I can for the benefit of the group. And remember that you can win prizes for your sustained engagement with your studies and this community this month. Happy Studying!

Could you make a video broadly explaining which math topics the ACT typically includes? No need to explain each topic; I just want to know which topics are most frequently brought up so I know what to start studying. It would also be beneficial if you could add some examples of how each topic is integrated into the exam :)
NEW Engagement Contest Begins TODAY!
Hi there Students! With the summer engagement contest coming to a triumphant end, what better way to start the fall test prep season than with yet another contest? This time rewards will be decided and handed out every month. You get points based on your interaction with the posts here on the Skool page. The only way you will receive entries in the monthly drawing is if you are on the Skool leaderboard on the right side of the community page. Entries will be awarded based on your position on the leaderboard, with the top position receiving 20 entries, the 2nd position 19, and so on until the final position. NOTE: the student with the most engagement every week will receive FIVE extra entries into the monthly drawing. One $100 gift card winner per month until 2025! So basically - if you do the things you're supposed to be doing anyway to get ready for your next test, you should find yourself in pretty good position to win some money! Let the contest....BEGIN!!

Today's Challenge: Commas!
Commas are by far the most assessed form of punctuation on the ACT! The more you know about the comma rules, the better your score will be. Here's a great example that you will see over and over again. What's the right answer?

The correct answer to this question is option Cโ€”commas are unnecessary in this sentence. Here's why: commas enclosing a name/title indicate that the name is not essential to the sentence, meaning the sentence would still make sense without the names. However, in this case, the names of Norman Woodland and Bernard Silver are critical to the sentence's meaning because they indicate that they are the SPECIFIC graduate students who solved the problem. Since their names are essential to the sentence, surrounding them with commas does not make sense. If anyone is struggling with problems like this, I would be happy to help explain some more grammatical questions ๐Ÿ˜Š Just let me know!
