Vocal mic question
I currently use a Shure SM57 for my vocal mic (while playing the acoustic guitar). I find that I need to be right on top of the mic for good sound. I'd like to sing a few inches from the mic and have a little bit of freedom to move around while playing and singing. Plus when I use my ipad for lyrics/chords it's really hard to read the ipad while playing the guitar and need to be right on top of the mic. (Yes, I know, I should learn the songs better and ditch the ipad. That will happen eventually. But in the meantime....) If I have more gain (say, using a cloudlifter) will that let me back away a few inches from the mic? Or is it better just to get a different mic? And if the latter, what mic? I'd use this setup playing live and at home. Thanks!

I bit the bullet and increased my gain (albeit for my barebones home set up) to get myself further away from the mic - I much prefer it this way. I did do a little bit of EQing afterwards, but I like it better than before
Coheed and Cambria - Lucky Stars (Day 1)
Yo been a while since I've posted anything. A little recording (first verse and chorus) of Lucky Stars by Coheed and Cambria - one of their slower songs. I love Coheed's vocals in general, but these gentler songs have a massive impact isolated and especially when contrasted with the rest of their music catalogue. My vocals are weak here, but I figure if I never try and sing these higher notes I'll get strengthen them. Oh well, enjoy (maybe)

@Luan Krasniqi Cheers big ears. I have been waiting patiently for this season of life - I forgot how much I enjoyed recording and practicing. You really do need to record to see where your weak point are. I think I've ironed out some more lyrics in this and will need to upload the full song soon.

@Simon Camacho Yo your singing has come a big way since the last time I watched one of your performances - your vocal tone is realy nice for Layla, it will have to be a mainstay in your setlist going forward

Playing guitar on and off for 15 years. Learning to sing and play for my kids. Finally putting the time in to learn theory.
