5 Takeaways from my meet up with Youtuber Ali Abdaal and writer, creator Sahil Bloom
As some of you know, I went to a really fun 'meet up' last Friday night. I wrote about my takeaways from the event on my Instagram, but I thought I would share them here, too. 1. I loved the ‘journaling prompt’ we spent a few minutes thinking about. 🎥 “If you were the main character in the movie of your life right now, what would the audience be screaming at you to do or focus on?” 🍿I found that so interesting. And a different way to think about what my priorities or focus could be for the upcoming year.  2. Create value in whatever you are doing. Whether you are an employee or own your own business, one of the things to remember is that there is often a gap between ‘creating the value’ and ‘getting compensated’. Sahil said he has seen many young people make this mistake. They think they should be rewarded at every step where they are creating value. But this isn’t the case. Sometimes, you create exceptional value, but the reward doesn’t come until much later. The reverse can also be true where, later in your career, you will be rewarded more than your value because of your ownership in the business, etc.  3. 📕Book recommendation: “The Third Door” by Alex Banayan. As an 18-year-old college freshman, Alex tracked down and interviewed some of the world’s most successful people to uncover how they broke through and launched their careers. He discovered one thing they all had in common: they got there through the ‘third door’. 4. “Trust is the atomic variable. It isn’t likes, views, or comments; it is all about TRUST.” Can you create things of value so you can garner trust? You could have a million followers on Instagram, but if they don’t trust you, they will never buy from you. 💸 5. “Stress and anxiety are proportional to your ambition. As you have more and more ambition, your stress and anxiety will rise.”  That is a part of entrepreneurship that you have to get used to. Ali also mentioned the common joke amongst entrepreneurs: “Who started a business so they could get more free time? Most put their hands up. 🙋‍♀️ And then, the day that they quit their jobs, they started working 80 hours a week rather than 40-hour weeks. They quickly realised they traded a 9-5 for a 24-hour-a-day job. But he also stressed that if you love it and it energises you, GO FOR IT! 💪

@Jolene Goodson Oh you’re welcome! I always find it helpful to write my takeaways straight after the event otherwise I just forget things! 😂
Mantra
I have been accomplishing getting ready for a Holiday Sale of my art. I repeat phrases "Just Keep Starting" or "Start Again This Is a Game" when I get into the thought of stopping/what is the use. Wendy said that "Just Start Again" is a SYSTEM. A system that I have been working/playing/using. The phrases help me go under the trip wire. I think of it as a spell I am casting for myself. The spell I am generating is phenomenal. Just Keep Starting--is a grand way to Get Her Done.

So good Sally! Just keep starting. And you’re right. It’s just another example of the power of systems!
Be playful. 🥳
I love Ali Abdaal’s content, both on YouTube and Instagram. He’s a productivity guy from the UK, who also just happened to have moved to Hong Kong. I saw this snippet this morning and it resonated with me. I’m starting to put some ideas out into the world and sometimes it feels like it’s big, momentous and consequently overwhelming. So I appreciated his message today about keeping things fun and playful! 😜 FYI, I saw on Instagram yesterday that he’s doing a free meet up for 100 people and I didn’t over think it, didn’t think “oh will I be the oldest person there” I just clicked yes and now I’m going to a meet up on Friday night. By myself! And I’m excited. 🥳 https://www.instagram.com/reel/DCj-5vDINRp/?igsh=MXRmd3M1bDh1ZW8zNQ==

Done!
Choose in 60 seconds ⏰
"Too many choices paralyse us." I was looking back in my Notes app under my "Personal Development" note and found this. I had been re-listening to the PCC calls in the app and wrote this... At 51 minutes in the call, she (meaning Wendy) said, “Letting go of significance, making little things seem more urgent than they are." One of the things with our current world of information overload is this thing in our caveman brain that makes us feel like we need to get all the information in order to be safe. It makes small things feel REALLY significant. Then you can’t tell the difference between the big things and the small things. This feeling of needing to get it right. Ask yourself, “Am I making this more significant than it needs to be?” “How much does this matter anyway?” Urgency leads to dread. So if we are making everything seem urgent, it just increases the bluh feelings. So what I can I decide in 60 seconds today??

@Sally S You are so welcome Sally. And I needed that lesson again too. I know exactly what you mean though about feeling like at times we make everything seem significant!
