October Training Log
What have i been working on the most lately? Integrating the Pai Lum Techniques I'm learning here into my regular training routine. Working on practicing the 5 elements meditation/breathing exercise. Interesting things that I've pulled from my practice/training? I've found a lot of overlap in the early on material with my other martial arts styles I practice. The one that shocked me was the 8 Point Blocking System which appears to be taught the same way here as I've learned elsewhere. What do I plan on practicing next? I plan on working towards the first form as well as the salutation to practice and learn during November.

Great to hear you're able to pull from the classes! Looking forward to recording and uploading the others.

I always enjoyed Bruce Lee and Jackie Chan the most. I also enjoy any media that involves around the "Three Kingdoms" period in Chinese history like Dynasty warriors or romance of the three kingdoms. The different people/characters there are super interesting to me.
What inspires you?
Big question of the day: What inspires you all to keep up your training? Mine will be in the comments :)

I think at this point, its just ingrained to train and think about it. Probably sounds like a cop-out answer, but I've spent 3/4 of my life training at this point, so it's hard to NOT think about it at least sometimes. I would also agree with you that my students are a big driving force as well. I hope that all my students can surpass me one day, but I don't intend to make it easy for them! The more I grow, the more I can provide them.
Solo Training Question:
What methods do people use to practice techniques that heavily require a partner to train effectively without a partner?

Great question. Knowing what you need work on specifically is a big aspect. Sometimes the skill you're trying to develop has a solo-variant that you can do. At the end of the day, though, I think there's some things that just require a human to work on, so maximizing your time with others is important. I know with my students who live in other states, I try to get them to come out at least once a year for a few days of more intensive training. That way, we can test everything - create a list of fundamentals that need work - translate those fundamentals into solo drills - and then that's what they can work on their own until the next time they can visit.
Any anime fans in here?
I grew up watching Naruto and have watched many more since. I enjoy the style as a whole but some of the Shonen fight scenes get me really hyped to train too!

I watched a lot as a child and teenager. DBZ, naruto, Fullmetal alchemist, etc. I try not to watch them as an adult mainly cause I can still get sucked into good ones and i end up spending too much time on it lol.
