Have you ever had this?
Ever attended a security course and sat there thinking to yourself...'I've heard all this before.' Ever walked out of an exam with the feeling that 'none of that really makes any difference?' Ever got your cert renewal and debated just shitcanning it? Ever blagged your CPEs just to get over the line but never really learned anything new? Ever felt frustrated that the things you feel you need in your job aren't being taught? Ever had an instructor who couldn't answer questions and just pointed to the slides or book and said 'if it's not in there, don't worry about it?' Yeah, I reckon. Ever considered taking a different approach to this security lark? Or is this just 'the way it is' ?

Yep to all. Supply driven solutions that has no demand driver measures. I'd add the Armed Forces Covenant and ELCAS sponsoring to the problem too - poaching potential good brains with course that cost "just enough".
Morning,fellow heretics!
These Friday things sure do roll around fast. Thank God for that. So...tell me something about security that you learned this week. It can be something about a theory, a specific area of practice or the industry. OR Tell me about some progress that you made towards a career goal. Let's go.

This week: 1. I learned on Apple TV's 'The Silo' that even Hollywood has notice the dilemma of security, in that even in an apocalyptic future, when you put IT in charge of maintaining a secure and ordered environment, and they see the problem as a controls and compliance issue, it will get fucked up when the human in the system starts asking 'why'. 2. I was reminded that people will happily ask you to "get in into the detail at a more granular level" as a smoke-screen to hide the fact that fundamental principles and concept are not understood on their side.

@Rich Diston White board and pens needed to be deployed to 'clarify' some concepts - every one in the room was apparently a security something-or-other for the dept. May be worth starting the next meeting by getting them to redraw and explain the stuff we needed to 'clarify' 😁
