Today's Challenge: Commas!
Commas are by far the most assessed form of punctuation on the ACT! The more you know about the comma rules, the better your score will be. Here's a great example that you will see over and over again. What's the right answer?

In addition to Lucy's explanation, we need to account for occupations and names being connected. Since they would be part of a singular thought, you can't have any commas separating them, which eliminates option B. By using Lucy's thought process, all of the other choices would be eliminated, leaving us with option C as the best answer for this problem.
Challenge Question of the Day! (ACT Math)
How would you solve this question? It's not as easy as it looks at first glance. I will post the answer 8am tomorrow morning. Good luck!

I've seen a question like this before and they actually give you the formula, so just make sure you know how to use it!
New Contest Begins TOMORROW!
Hello Students - I am so excited to reveal the winners of the Summer Engagement Contest tonight on Facebook Live at 7pm ET. I will also introduce a NEW contest that begins TOMORROW. All you have to do is participate! Ask questions, respond to others, participate in classes. You know - what you *should* be doing *anyway* as you prepare for your next test! These contests are all about being a good community member. And reallizing that the most successful test-preppers are NOT the ones who hole themselves up and burn through tests. The most successful preppers are the ones who are constantly subjecting their level of understanding to the real world. Who are not afraid to change the way they think about the test if new information comes along. And the most effective way to do that is through groups like this one! Good luck to everyone who is eligible for prizes in the summer contest. If you're not one of those lucky ones, look for the first prompt of the new contest this evening!

Using the special right angle triangle proof for and isosceles right angle triangle, we can just work backwards. Knowing that the hypotenuse is xsqrt2 and the 2 sides are both 2x, we can figure out that one side length is equal to 47sqrt2. This is honestly just knowing special rigt angle triangles. Without them, you wouldn't be able to solve this problem!

I would add those. Then, I would add distance formula, equation of a circle, law of sines and cosines, quadratic formula, slope, volume formulas, and more I'm just not remembering off the top of my head right now!
ACT Reading TOTD - The "Enlightened Skim"
The tip is that you should never, ever read every word of ANY ACT Reading passage! At least, not as closely as you have been taught to do in school. How can you read for concepts (not content) and still complete the questions in a timely manner? This is where the "enlightened skim" comes in. An enlightened skim is a couple of steps above what you're thinking when you say "skim." Take a look at the example from a recent humanities group session attached below. The goal of the enlightened skim is NOT to highlight important details. That takes time to process, and the first read-through should just get you from Point A to Point B. No - the goal of the ES is to leave yourself "breadcrumbs" in the passage, to avoid having to hunt too long for the concepts. If you're not sure where things are located in the passage after your first read-through, you probably just need to refine your skimming techniques! Remember that you will not have highlighters on the test, so I would recommend underlining, circling, stars beside key concepts. The highlighting just makes it easy to see for our purposes here. What else would you add to this strategy?

The "Enlightened Skim" is a technique that is meant to be developed by you! Start by practicing multiple methods and do whatever works best for you. This method works, but it is mainly a ladder that allows you to see a better strategy for yourself.
