Question/Discussion: How much does it matter which university you study at?
Hey everyone. So in today's virtual coffee, I mentioned that I'm looking to pursue a MSc degree, but the options for fundings/programs are not always that easily available, given one's personal background and resume, you might be needing to go for whatever chance that gets you closer. From your experience, how much does the ranking/reputation of a university or the country you're studying at matter? *Specifically Europe.* And how does that affect one's chance of getting into industry or doing PhD after MSc?

@Zayd Akhtar Ya germany used to be my first preference because it used to have no tution fees. And as it changed now i was thinking of alternatives.

International Simulation Olympiad
As i was searching for internships and workshops on Openfoam. I came across this platform. I thought it might be helpful for few you guys. And if anyone are interested in teaming up pls let me know. https://www.paanduvapplications.com/international-simulation-olympiad Let me know whether it was useful or not through the poll.

@Mohamed Sayed I just got to know about it. So i am thinking to participate this year.
Gas and Steam Turbines
Hello guys! I hope you are all doing well! Since I started at my current internship, I've been dealing a lot with Brayton, Rankine and Combined Cycles, in special with power generation. Since then, I've been wondering if there's anyway I could try to model the fluid flow on a CFD software (Ansys preferably) so as to get the expected power output. If anyone here have could light up my way, it would really be helpful and mean a lot for me.

If you want to learn heat transfer in Ansys innovation courses there are free courses in Ansys where you can learn it. Here is the link for it https://courses.ansys.com/ I hope it might be helpful to you

Which is the best CFD software to begin? and Why? OpenFoam or Andy’s Fluent

I would say Openfoam. At first you might feel uncomfortable because it doesn't have GUI but while practicing OpenFoam you can lear essence of CFD. It has wide range of solvers. For OpenFoam there are very limited tutorials in Youtube like Wolfdynamics. Where as Ansys fluent is Comercial but with great GUI. Easy to design domain and mesh. But I don't know why but while learning Ansys by watching videos it felt like Im installing some software. I dont what is happening in the background.
Dive into the World of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD)** 🌊🖥️
Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) and some resources for free, open-source learning. I am here to start a career in Computational Fluid Dynamics especially in turbomachinery applications. Here is my receipt, I am open to all other suggestions! **Starting Steps**: 1. **Fundamentals First**: Begin with the basics of fluid mechanics and thermodynamics. 2. **Software Skills**: Familiarize yourself with CFD software. Open-source options like OpenFOAM are a great place to start. 3. **Community Engagement**: Join forums and groups like this one 🙂. **Free Open-Source Resources**: - **OpenFOAM**: An extensive tool for CFD analysis, widely used in academia and industry. - **CFD Online**: A forum for CFD enthusiasts to discuss ideas and find solutions. - **SimScale Academy**: Offers free courses on CFD, FEA, and thermal analysis. Remember, the key to success in CFD is continuous learning and practical application. So, grab these resources, connect with the community, and start simulating!
