My Story. How I became a Residential Designer in the US
I hope everybody is having a great weekend so far! A few years ago, I became a big fan of graphic novels, and in fact, most of my drawings are inspired by the different authors I enjoy reading and have been discovering throughout the years. Here is an illustration I made where I share my story and path to becoming a residential designer in the US. Where do you get your inspiration from? Feel free to leave a comment! 😀

@Luis Furushio Knowing what you know now, would you have done anything differently right after arriving in the U.S.? I'm curious if there are any decisions you would reconsider today. Thanks for the inspiring post!

It's interesting that adding floor space has a lower ROI compared to other renovations 🧐 It could be due to the rising construction costs, right?
Building Code Tips
Most cities use either the California Residential Code, which allows max. ceiling heights of 7 feet, or the California Building Code, which allows max. heights of 7 feet 6 inches.

Thank you for sharing the building code tips! 😊 I noticed some differences when comparing these to the regulations we have in Poland. According to the Polish regulations, the minimum height for rooms intended for human occupancy is generally 2.5 meters (about 8 feet 2 inches) for living rooms in residential buildings. For rooms in attics of single-family houses and agritourism buildings, as well as individual recreation buildings, the minimum height is 2.2 meters (about 7 feet 2 inches), but this is an average height, with the lowest point not being less than 1.9 meters (about 6 feet 3 inches). It's interesting to see how these standards vary depending on the region. It makes me curious about the reasoning behind these specific height requirements in different countries. Does anyone have insights into why certain heights are preferred or mandated in different areas?

Hi! My name is Tomek, and I'm from Poland. By education, I'm an IT specialist 💻, by passion, a Full Stack Designer 🦄, and by calling, a businessman 💰😄. I'm 24 years old and currently running a language school with my better half. I also ran my own computer repair service for three years. I'm here in this group because I'm building my first house. I hope to learn some interesting things here that will help me get more involved in the construction process.
