❓Questions

How best to store training truffles?

I have received fresh training truffles via post today. Could anyone tell me the best way to store them please? I believe from the English truffle company that they can be used for training whilst frozen. Seems a bit odd. All advice welcome 😊🐾

You can store them in the freezer and just take them in and out for training purposes. Eventually they won't smell enough for your dog to find them. Alternatively you can leave them in a cool pantry or fridge wrapped in paper towel. They will keep for a week, but again the smell will go. I pop mine in with my eggs so I get truffled eggs

@Jackie Cairns We find truffles on slopes facing every direction and also on flat ground. If the pH is correct and the tree type its worth looking not matter what orientation.

❓Questions

Where exactly?

How near trees are we meant to be searching? I thought near the trunk but old trees in the woods near me have many roots near the surfaceof the soil with not enough space in between for anything other than very tiny truffles. We have to go over 6 feet away to find any soil that can be loosened. Is this right or should I look for different trees? 😂

My dog finds truffles which don't appear to be close to any tree. We also find they close to the tree trunk. I don't think there is a hard and fast rule. If he indicates I'll look in that area not mater how close to a tree. Not much help I'm afraid, just keep looking.
