Convergence in Ansys Fluent DPM Simulations
Hi everyone! It seems like the group has been a bit quiet lately so I thought I’d spark some discussion with a question about my simulation project. I’m currently working on a reactor simulation using Ansys Fluent with the Discrete Phase Model (DPM) enabled. The simulations are steady-state and I monitor the residuals and balance equations to determine if my solution has converged. I’ve set the residuals to (10^{-6}) for energy and (10^{-5}) for the other variables. However my solution consistently fails to converge. Has anyone encountered a similar issue or have any suggestions on how to achieve convergence? Any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated! Looking forward to your insights! 😊

@Mario Morales Yup! I know, the main interest point in my simulation is the temperature at the outlet so I'm also monitoring it. Although I have learned that if the residue hit below 10^-3 we can consider that the conditions are fully developed!! I'm also checking the balances of mass and energy but also facing the issue in the energy balance.

@Angshuman Bhardwaj the plot shows the temperature at outlet at different iterations
Meshing Tools/Strategies
Hi everyone, I was lately hooked on some new meshing strategies to include in SplashFOAM, and I was curious to know what your preferred meshing tools/methods are. Feel free to write your experience with meshing in the comments below. This feedback will help me a lot. Cheers! [N.B.: I may consider generating some meshing templates for canonical flows at some point, so stay tuned ;)]

I have mainly used Ansys Meshing and Fluent Meshing tools. Ansys meshing is great because it lets you easily keep track of the mesh quality with metrics for things like skewness and aspect ratio. However one downside is that it can be tricky to mesh complex geometries often needing a lot of manual adjustments. Improving the automation for complex shapes would be a big help.
Reverse flow and Turbulent Viscosity Issue in Ansys Fluent
Hello everyone, I am currently facing an issue in Ansys Fluent while working on a reactor simulation. After running my simulation, I encountered the following messages in my residual transcript: DPM Iteration .... temperature limited to 1.000000e+00 in 8 cells on zone 10 in domain 1 number tracked = 40, escaped = 17, trapped = 23 turbulent viscosity limited to viscosity ratio of 1.000000e+05 in 457 cells 20 6.2527e+01 2.7448e-03 2.9115e-03 3.7521e-03 5.6725e-03 3.2007e-02 1.4097e-01 4.4115e-04 0.0000e+00 0.0000e+00 9.1858e-04 9.1858e-04 3:13:26 9990 reversed flow in 14 faces on outflow 14. temperature limited to 1.000000e+00 in 18 cells on zone 10 in domain 1 I initially performed a simulation with a gas velocity of 6 m/s, and the results were fine. However, after changing the velocity to 1 m/s, I encountered the above issues. Does anyone know how to address these problems? You can find the transcript attached to this query

@Aswath Ashok The reactor include an inlet (for gas) and outlet. There are sprays inside reactor. I got good results with this mesh when I set the velocity to 6 m/s but changing the velocity to 1 m/s, these are the residual comments I'm getting in Ansys Fluent.

@Aswath Ashok It occurred to me that I should change the e and k values in URF. However, I'm not sure if this is a common or good practice in CFD and I'm concerned about how much it will affect my solution.
Heterogeneous Combustion UDF Code
Hi CFD Dose Communuity, I am working on heterogebous combustion of char particles in Ansys Fluent. As I have to write the UDF code for this problem but I am completely new to this. Is there any platform where I can learn how to write the code or I can get previous similar code to alter it for my specific problem? Thanks.
