“Brian, I don’t think this is doable…"
I’ve heard that many times.
In this case, these words came from three of my core leadership team members when I said we’d be helping Patrick Bet-David sell his event OUT.
Now, let’s not crucify my team here…
…They had a very valid point.
…In fact, they were right…
…We didn’t have the assets to sell this out just 2-3 months away from the Vault Conference LIVE Event’s start date.
But I had two options, and one choice to make…
Option A) I listened to my team and said "no", understanding we didn’t have a solid sales funnel to work with, any creatives at all to use for the ads, AND the time frame being extremely short…
OR...
Option B) I followed my gut, and asked my team to back me up on this one, and if it didn’t go right, I’d take the blame.
Needless to say…
…I followed my gut.
And I did that even though we had everything to lose because of this simple reason…
See, Brian, I’m ALWAYS willing to fail.
Because in order to WIN BIGLY (lol), you must be willing to fail miserably.
You won’t grow if you don’t put some skin into the game.
You won’t grow if you don’t try to solve BIGGER problems.
You won’t grow if you don’t embrace RISK.
And I’m always looking for new challenges to FORCE us to grow.
Now, I know what you’re probably thinking…
"It’s Patrick Bet-David. Even a Udemy marketer can sell that thing out."
…Maybe.
…But most definitely, MAYBE not.
Why?
Because big names help, yeah…
…But big names won’t fill a 3,000-people room in this case.
Because with SO MUCH information out there, even big names fall under that "yeah, right" tree we all know and hate so much…
And even further…
…We were not about to compete with Patrick’s competitors…
…We were also about to compete with life.
…We were about to feel in our own flesh how tough it could be to convince someone to plan a trip, book a hotel room, rent a car, and take a few days off from work to attend a LIVE event…
And to make matters worse…
…We knew that a $600 CPA (per ticket) would be more than reasonable for something like this, but more realistically $750-800…
…We KNEW we would lose money on the front end…
So that’s why we came together AS A TEAM to plot this move that comprised three fundamental shifts…
Shift #1) We needed a better Sales Page.
Vault Conference’s sales page was not bad at all…
But it wasn't GREAT either lol...
However, there was a major messaging problem: it was WARM-traffic friendly.
This means we would've got slaughtered on cold traffic as things stand.
So I pulled in our Copy Chief, Israel, and he went in and re-wrote the entire page…
10 times better now.
But does just tweaking the copy do the trick?
No chance...
We needed a funnel designer to give this page a real Patrick Bet-David-worthy look.
So we did just that.
And what do you know?
Magically… Conversions went up like crazy.
And not just on OUR ad campaigns, but on the entire funnel and for the company as a WHOLE.
But that's not all…
Shift #2) We took a (passive) aggressive targeting approach.
We knew how much we could afford to lose on the front end. So we had to optimize for volume and let the page and Patrick’s authority do the rest.
This may seem like a no-brainer…
But here’s a fundamental mistake 99% Media Buyers are guilty of…
…They OVER OPTIMIZE their campaigns.
This may sound weird, but sometimes, letting campaigns breathe is the best practice.
Risky?
For an inexperienced Media Buyer, maybe…
But I have Charlie, our head of Client Success, Alan, and Jashmin, who are our ROCKSTAR media buyers.
We literally couldn't lose lol.
So I simply drafted up the entire strategy on a google doc, handed it to them and said, do your thing!
Which they did, very very well I might add.
Shift #3) Creative flexibility.
You know, Brian, when you think about it, Patrick’s great in front of a camera…
…And even so…
…He followed our scripts and direction notes to the ‘T’.
That was a MASSIVE surprise and it was really a confirmation that we’re the PBDs of YouTube Ads.
How did this help?
Well…
We got an average of 28% View Rates lol.
Now, these 3 shifts played a massive role in selling the Vault Conference 2023 out…
But to give credit where credit is due…
…This wouldn’t have been possible if I hadn’t decided to listen to my gut.
Even if my team thought I was nuts.
Even if I thought I was nuts.
And even if we had little odds to WIN the whole thing...
…But still, I did. WE did.
And to be honest with you...
…We kinda had everything we needed to win after all.

That’s how WE won this ‘war’.
The takeaway for you this time?
Listen to your gut.
Be courageous.
Be ‘unreasonable’ following your instinct.
Because at the end of the day…
…You’ll always be held accountable for your results.
So you may as well win or lose staying true to yourself.
