Knows her way around an aria like nobody's business, teaches rough effects for rock like a boss, and has a way of seeing you and calling out what's natural and special. I've seen her do it a lot. And, she'll have you recovering for days if you hear her sing. One time at the BoCo she sang "If I Can't Love Her" from Beauty and the Beast, and I wasn't well for the rest of the weekend. Let me introduce you to @Evan Rees -- music director, conductor, and voice teacher. Evan's the real deal, and you'll get a ton out of working with him. I had the privilege of being on Evan's thesis committee at BoCo, and his work on training singers honoring technical function together with story and emotional connection clarified so many things in my own teaching. I use the tools I learned through working with him every day. Evan just finished touring as Associate Conductor for the INTO THE WOODS national tour, and he was in the room playing rehearsals for Encores! TITANIC. I was jeally. Today's teacher feature is @Curtis Reynolds . Music director, actor, and Assist Prof of Musical Theatre at University of Nebraska at Omaha. I got to know Curtis in BoCo's MFA pedagogy program. He partnered up with me in the studio as a collaborative pianist and was also a repertoire suggestion secret weapon -- lots of terrific material because of his ideas. He's brilliant. Today's Teacher Feature is my BoCo colleague (and Greensboro NC native!) Dr. @Emily Siar. Emily is a fantastic teacher and artist. She's brilliant, kind, and dang she can sing. (She won the NATS Artist Award this year which requires you to sing like 78 different genres of classical repertoire -- a big accomplishment.) She explained registration and acoustics better than anyone I'd ever heard at last summer's Vocal Pedagogy Professional Workshop at the Conservatory. And I really appreciate how she shares her own experience, strength, and hope with vocal recovery to help her students and colleagues, destigmatizing the things that can happen to vocal athletes.
