Habitual Motivation / Importance of small steps
Understanding habits, and the practice of consistency quite literally delivers ,"unconscious results". In our brain we have a specific area called the "Basal Ganglia". Previously misunderstood, the basal ganglia was shown to have abnormal activation in patients with short/ long term memory loss. Patients who couldn't even remember their name were able to perform familiar actions without knowing why. Understanding the value of that study changed my paradigms on habits in two ways.
1.) the "one more won't hurt mentality" actually does hurt.
2.) having to perform a task for "no reason" can also be preparation for when you genuinely have "no reason"
