On Wednesday I failed.
At 12:30 I was scheduled to speak at the Women's Spirit Festival a summit of incredible women speakers. As I listened to the speaker before me I prepared the Facebook live interface. Clicked into the so called studio from my desktop computer and entered the description. The "Go Live" button remained dull and inactive. π€· It was time for my show, the clock was ticking, and... I couldn't go live. I failed to appear. π€¦
Frustrated by this irritating interface and feeling flustered about not being live when I was scheduled to be presenting, I could feel the emotions surging.
And then I picked up my phone, opened Facebook, and with just a few quick clicks- 1. Access the group 2. Add a post 3. Go live - I was live! π
So simple!
The camera started facing wrong direction. Fixed that quickly too. Darn mirroring made the logo poster behind me backwards. That's ok!
And then after the presentation came the difficulty of wrangling ANTs (Automatic Negative Thoughts.) Some that I experience were "You really screwed that up" and "You blew it again"
You ever beat yourself up with thoughts like that?
We all get those thoughts. The question is how we respond. Do we allow them to drag us down or do we shoo them away.
Well, I immediately told those thoughts NO! I was grateful I had my phone next to the computer and I appreciate that instead of freaking out about failing I picked up the phone and went live.
The gratitude and appreciation dispersed those negative thoughts and feelings. And then I turned the experience into an inspirational post.
When I went back to follow up with comments and I discovered that I had inspired someone else to sign up and become a speaker. She had been on the fence for days and seeing me make it through those "failures" gave her the green light.
Failures are gateways that open doors to new opportunities!
What's a failure you turned into win?
