ADE (Alliance of Documentary Editors) published this great PDF outlining their philosophy around editing schedules for documentaries. I'm assuming most of us here don't produce multi-hour documentaries, but it's still a *really* interesting read about editing philosophy.
"There’s a lot about editing documentaries that is like life lessons. You have to try stuff that doesn’t work in order to figure out what does work. I have a lot of embarrassing sequences I would never want anybody to see. They ended up being dumb ideas, but they’re all a part of getting to a place where you can feel what’s right for the film and what isn’t.”
