Little Deck with a Big Problem
This deck was probably one of the most questionably attached I have ever seen. The deck would bounce up and down at the house connection as you walked by. The house has an LVL rim board and is sheathed with 3/4" particle board. Additionally, there is 1" XPS behind the siding to provide a continuous insulation barrier around the whole house. That means that each bolt going into the LVL had to span 1 3/4" between the back of the ledger and the rim board.
To fix this, we had to cut away the insulation and make repairs to the particle board sheathing.
