This deck was probably one of the most questionably attached I have ever seen. The deck would bounce up and down at the house connection as you walked by. The house has an LVL rim board and is sheathed with 3/4" particle board. Additionally, there is 1" XPS behind the siding to provide a continuous insulation barrier around the whole house. That means that each bolt going into the LVL had to span 1 3/4" between the back of the ledger and the rim board.
To fix this, we had to cut away the insulation and make repairs to the particle board sheathing.
Feel free to ask me any questions on building/enjoying your deck!
