How I Made $672K From Cold DMs
I closed my first 101 clients through cold DMs $672K collected It's not rocket science, but most people are TERRIBLE at them.
If you want to not suck at them, copy my framework.
(Normally the only way to get this is to pay $1K+ for consulting, but I'll give it here for free)
Before we get going, let's talk about the single biggest mistake most people make
In fact, I've gotten 4 DMs today that make this mistake..
People treat cold DMs like cold email. They COULD NOT BE more different.
Think of it like talking to a girl (or boy, or whatever you're into)
If the first message you send them is
"WaNNa gO oN a dATe??"
They're not going to respond, and you're going to look like a weirdo (Because you are)
The point of your first DM is not to make your offer.
If you DM someone your offer first, and they're not interested right off the bat (99% won't be)
You will get no responses.
They will treat you like the money-hungry person you are.
The point of the first DM is to MAKE. A. CONNECTION.
If you were trying to get a date, you might respond to a story and comment on the music they're listening to that you also like or a place they're at that you've been to as well
The first DM should establish common ground.
"But Alex, I'm doing DM outreach to get more clients!!! Not make friends!!"
No shit.
But you have to get them to drop their guard first and be open to having the conversation or they will lump you in with the hundred other DMs they got this week and ignore you
When they respond...
DON'T jump right into asking them "How's your business going?" or "What's your pain point?" (I actually got that as a DM last week)
It's still too early. Focus on looking like a normal human and building a relationship with them.
The next step... And this is crucial.... WAIT.
Wait until they post something about their business (if they're active on social, they will)
Your goal now is simple.. Make them think.
"Hmm, that's interesting. Never thought of that before."
Ask them a question in response to the story that leads to a conversation about how you can help them.
For example, let's say you sold ad services (like we did)
They post something about how they just launched a program and got some sales for it.
"Congrats bro! This is sick" - Your Story Response
"Thanks man appreciate it" - Their Response
"Have you ever considered possibly scaling this up with ads?" - You
"Honestly bro I have tried ads before but it didn't really work" - Them
BOOM. Now you're in.
You're having a genuine conversation about the pain points in their business that doesn't feel manufactured or forced. They told you their struggles.
"Aw that sucks man, have heard that from some of the people we've worked with before. What'd you try?"
"Well I tried boosting some of my posts but didn't really see more sales from it"
"Ah yeah, a lot of people do. We've actually worked with some people in X space, have some strats that have worked well... happy to walk through them with you if it might be helpful?"
"Yeah man definitely!"
See how easy that was?
Works the same way as getting a date.
1) Establish Common Ground
2) Build Relationship
3) Wait For The Right Moment
4) Soft Pitch A No-Risk Conversation
5) Get em on the phone and close the deal.
Hope it helps.
