subdomain choice logic and seo implications

We are implement Go High Levels pages into our wordpress site. The first page will be an appointment funnel page. It's my understanding using subdomains is best practices for GHL

For SEO purposes is that accurate? and if yes, in picking the subdomain - what are best practices?

for example - our homepage keyword focus is "medical marketing"

our primary domain is "www.YourMedicalLiaison.com"

if we pick marketing as the subdomain making it marketing.yourmedicalliaison.com - it encompasses our "core" - keyword

or should it be something more generic so the subdomain never competes? I see Josh Nelson uses "go" for his subdomain - it sounds great with go SEO
