I feel that this is a big issue for many players, especially for me. Speed is a quality important for all positions in soccer, and immensely helps the player who holds it. For those who don't, it puts them at an enormous disadvantage. As a player who doesn't have a high sprinting speed (both acceleration and top speed), I definitely feel that disadvantage, and have felt it for a large amount of my soccer career, and is arguably the #1 detriment to my game. Over close to a year, I have tried many methods to get faster at sprinting (none of which work). Plyometrics and weightlifting were my main ones. For plyometrics I currently use broad jumps, pogo hops, a-skips, lunge jumps. For weightlifting, I generally do squats, bench press, pull ups, and dead-lifts. I haven't done much of sprinting itself. Do I just lack consistency in my program, or is it simply a bad program? Could it be bad form during exercises? I have seen the many sprinting threads in this community, but I want to know if others have experience using these and have found actual results by using these. I have also read and watched A LOT of resources on sprinting and improving speed, and often get differing answers of what to do to improve speed. If there is a tried and proven method that others have done (with specific exercises and amount) as well as what results they found, I would be very grateful. Thank you very much.
